137108100 Washer Drain Pump Assembly

Washer drain pump 137108100, is used on Kenmore, Frigidaire, Tappan, White Westinghouse, Gibson, Kelvinator, and other brand washers and laundry centers.

This pump will need to be replaced if it is stuck, noisy or leaking. Although this pump is located in the right front of the washer on the base, you still need to move the washer forward for a couple of reasons. First you need to gain access to the screws that hold the top panel on, because it must be removed before you can get to the screws that secure the front panel to the washer.

 

Secondly, because there are screws across the bottom of the washer that are impossible to get to unless it is tilted to the rear, the washing machine will have to be pulled forward and tilted to the rear, to gain access to the screws.

 

Once you have disconnected the washer from the electrical supply, you can move it forward enough to allow you to gain access to the rear. Start by removing the two screws on the far left and right of the top panel. This will require a Phillips head screwdriver. Once the screws are removed, slide the panel to the rear to unlatch it. Lift the panel up and put it out of your way.

 

Now you can move around to the front of the washer and pull the detergent dispenser drawer forward. At the left rear of the detergent dispenser is a tab that needs to be pushed down so you can slide the dispenser drawer all the way out. After that use your Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw in the lower right of the dispenser housing, on the front of the washer. There are two control panel screws at the top, you can now use your Phillips head screwdriver to remove those. Lift the tabs up across the top of the control panel slightly so that you can pull the panel forward to remove it from the washer. Rest the control panel on the top of the washer. There is no need to disconnect any of the wires.

 

Now open the front door of the washer and use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the spring-loaded wire clamp that secures the boot, or door seal as it is sometimes known, to the front of the washer. Next peel the boot off the lip on the front panel. Tilt the washer to the rear to expose the screws located under the front panel. You will need two wooden blocks about the size of a brick to support the washer while you remove the screws. Once you remove the four screws across the bottom, you can lower the washer back down to remove the front. Next remove the 4 screws across the top of the front panel. With the door closed, grasp the panel and lift it up to disengage it from the mounting tabs and pull it out were slightly. Do not pull too far, because you need to disconnect the wiring harness to the door switch. Once you disconnect the plastic wiring coupler that connects the door switch to the wiring harness, put the front panel off to the side out of the way.

 

Now tilt the washer to the rear again, and use your wooden blocks underneath the leveling feet to support the weight of the washer. This will make it easier to gain access to the pump. Have a towel ready to collect the water that's going to pour out of the sump when you release the clamp and pull the hose off the pump. Now disconnect both hoses from the pump along with the wiring harness. Use a nut driver to remove the two small bolts that hold the pump to the base.

 

Now all that's left to do is install the new pump and reverse the process to reassemble the washer.
