338906 Gas Dryer Flame Sensor

Gas dryer flame switch 338906, is used on Kenmore, Whirlpool, Maytag, Roper, KitchenAid and more gas dryers and laundry centers

 

This 2-Wire gas dryer flame sensor is sometimes called a photo cell or flame switch

 

When power is applied to the ignitor it starts to glow hot. The heat from the ignitor heats the flame sensor to a point sufficient to allow gas to ignite. At that temperature, the heat flexes a bi metal in the flame sensor opening the circuit. Once the circuit is open to the sensor, power is applied to the secondary coil of the coil kit. Current passing through the coil on top of the has valve creates an electromagnetic field opening the valve, allowing the gas to flow and ignite in the burner assembly.
