How does a dryer lint screen work
A dryer lint screen, sometimes called a lint catcher, or lint filter, is located in the dryer vent air flow. Its purpose is to collect dryer lint as the hot humid air exits the dryer. Preventing the lint from entering the dryer vent system helps keep the vent to the outside from becoming restricted.
The symptoms of a dryer vent restriction are:
- Dryer takes too long to dry clothes
- The lint screen collects little or no lint
- The dryer seems to be very hot on top
If you suspect that you have a dryer vent restriction you should take care of it right away to prevent a dryer fire, or more commonly, to prevent your dryer thermal cutout from shutting down the dryer.
