WX09X10020 4 Prong Dryer Cord

This dryer cord is 6 feet long and is used on dryers connected to 4 prong electrical receptacles.

 

The WX09X10020 ships with a cord strain relief (not shown). The strain relief tethers the cord to the dryer to prevent the cord from being pulled loose from the dryer terminal block. See the picture at the bottom and notice how the cord is connected to the dryer.

 

How to connect a 4 wire dryer cord.

 

There are 3 lugs on the dryer terminal block. Connect the red and black wires from the cord to the left and right posts of the terminal block. The red and black wires from the cord can go on either side of the terminal block they are interchangeable. Then connect the white (neutral) to the center post. The green wire should be attached to the dryer chassis. The picture below shows the green wire hooked to the center (neutral) and this is WRONG! The green wire should be connected to the screw where the green wire on the chassis is connected.

 

How to change a 3-wire dryer cord to a 4-wire dryer cord.

 

If necessary remove the neutral strap or wire that connects the center post on the dryer terminal block to the chassis frame. Connect the green wire from the 4-wire cord to the dryer frame. Next connect the red and black wires from the cord to the left and right posts of the terminal block. The red and black wires from the cord can go on either side of the terminal block they are interchangeable. Finally connect the white (neutral) to the center post.

 

Why did my dryer terminal block burn out?

 

The main reason dryer terminal blocks and dryer cords burn up are loose connections. These connections should not be repaired. The terminal block and the cord should be replaced. Now don't get all strongman on the lugs when you connect the new cord to the terminal block. The dryer terminal block will crack or the lugs will strip out from the base and you will wind up with another damaged dryer cord. Just snug up the connections and they will be fine.
