The dryer belt idler maintains tension on the belt. The dryer belt that fits around the dryer drum, is looped through the idler and over the dryer motor pulley. Since it is made of a springlike metal, it keeps the belt tight. Belts on dryers almost never squeak or make noise. Most of the time if the dryer is making noise, that noise is coming from a worn-out dryer belt idler, roller or bearing.
How to install dryer idler pulley 691366
- First unplug the dryer from the electrical receptacle.
- Next lift up the door and remove the lint screen from the top of the dryer.
- Next remove the two screws that secure the lint filter housing to the top of the dryer.
- Using a putty knife or a very thin screwdriver, slide it under the top in the front to release the two retaining clips on the far right and left sides.
- Now lift up the top and lean it against a wall making sure that it will not fall all the way back.
- Remove the screws that hold the front of the dryer with the door attached to the cabinet
- Lift up the drum slightly and pull the front of the dryer with the door still attached up then forward.
- Note how the belt is looped through the idler pulley over the motor pulley before you remove the idler
- Now you can replace the idler by pulling it up to relieve the tension from the belt and slide it out of the notches in the base of the dryer
- It's that easy! All you need to do now is replace the front and reassemble the dryer
