How do you check a dryer thermal fuse?
A dryer thermal fuse is designed to shut down the dryer, or the current to the heater in the event of a control thermostat failure or dryer vent restriction. A dryer thermal fuse does not reset. It is a one time use only fuse.
You can check a dryer thermal fuse by using an ohmmeter. After you disconnect the dryer from the electrical supply and turn of the gas supply if applicable, you must isolate the thermal fuse from the dryer electrical wiring harness by removing the wires attached to the terminals. Set your meter to read ohms and check from one terminal to the other. There should be no resistance, in other words, continuity. If you need to replace a dryer thermal fuse, be aware that this is a safety device. |
