Don’t worry, the air ducts aren’t something that need to be cleaned every week, not even every year. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association recommends that air ducts be cleaned every three to five years or so.

How do you know when it’s time to clean the air vents? The Environmental Protection Agency gave a few list of factors to look for when suspecting to clean the air ducts.

  • Mold growing within the duct

  • Insects seem to be invading. There could be a passage or a housing that the insects are residing in so it’s best to clean those out as fast as possible.

  • Infestation of rodents. The smaller critters could have found a way to get into the house and it could be through the air vents.

  • When air is blowing, you notice a puff of dust being released into the air.

  • Moving into a brand new home. Although it’s freshly built and no one has lived there prior, it’s good to have them cleaned because there could be left over debris and dust from drywall, saw dust and other materials.
