Dishwasher is Noisy
Dishwasher is Noisy
Some noises coming from your dishwasher are normal, like the swishing sound of water filling or entering the dishwasher or the hum of a motor running. However, if your dishwasher starts making a new noise that you are not familiar with, it might be due to any of the following causes.
When your dishwasher is making strange noises it could be caused by a piece of food or a foreign object falling into the drain pump area of your dishwasher. You will need to disassemble the
lower spray arm
and plastic protective screen under it, to access the
drain pump
and other parts. Use a wet/dry shop vacuum to clean out the water and any food bits and foreign objects that might be lodged here.

A defective pump could be the cause of noise inside your dishwasher. Objects could be caught inside the pump or parts, such as bearings, can wear out over time. Bad bearings could cause a continuing droning noise, like the one in this video (

). If this is the kind of noise you are hearing, you will need to replace the bearings, or it might be easier to replace the entire pump.

The drain and washer impellers help drive water either through the spray arms for washing dishes or drive water out of the dishwasher during the draining cycle. The impeller has thin blades that can break off and cause noise during the dishwasher’s operation. Visually inspect these parts to see if they need replacement. It might be a good idea to replace the seals around them at the same time.

are available.
