Hand Washing vs. Dishwasher

Posted by Jessica Zoldowski on 8/22/2018 to Dishwasher

Cleaning can sometimes be such a chore, so people will find anyway to make the cleaning easy and fast. For example, when it comes to the dishes, is it better to hand wash them or use the dishwasher? Below are some details to make the decision a little bit easier.

When it comes to cleaning, dishwashers have cycles that wash and dry the dishes, but some dishwashers have cycles like cleaning and sanitizing as well. When hand washing dishes, it would be pretty difficult to sanitize the dishes. How does someone even do that? When hand washing, people have to use a sponge, which can be one of the  germiest household items. So when it comes to cleaning, dishwashers may be the way to go.

Dishwashers can save more energy. It may be hard to believe, however, it’s true. One of the reasons is the water heater needs to create hot water when you are washing dishes by hand, but most dishwashers nowadays have a water heater system inside to create a more efficient way of heating up the water. Certain dishwashers can actually use less than half of the energy than washing by hand.

Furthermore, don’t rinse dishes by hand. Scraping food off into the trash is fine, but when rinsing the dishes, people waste over 6,000 gallons of water. The dishes will still be clean even if there is no rinsing.

Lastly, make sure when using the dishwasher, it is a full load. If there aren’t enough dishes at the end of the day, make sure to wipe down any sticky place to prevent the food from drying and hardening.
