How Do Dryer Electronic Controls Work

Dryer Electronic Controls

At first glance dryer electronic controls seem very complicated. However, an electronic control on a dryer is simply a replacement for the traditional timer.

Electronic controls use low voltage within with a printed circuit board to switch relays on and off to control all the loads in the dryer.

A load on a dryer is something that does work. A heater heats, the motor turns and the end of the cycle buzzer makes noise. These are all loads and must have wires that run all the way back to the contacts on the relays.

Relays can be on the board (electronic control) or in a relay pack usually located near the control board in the control panel area.

Locating the Model Number on your Dryer

When calling to find an exact replacement part for your dryer, you will need the Model Number ready to go. The model number on a dryer can typically be found in one of four places:

For electric dryers, the model number can be found in the upper back corner, the front side of the cabinet, or the cabinet frame inside the door.

For gas dryers, the model number can typically be found behind the front access panel.
