Stove Burner Not Working or Heating
Stove Burner Not Working or Heating
The
surface element
on your stove will not work if you have a defective switch. The surface element switch, or
infinite switch
, sends voltage to the surface element coil. If you have a defective switch, the surface element will not heat, or go to high heat no matter what temperature is set.

The
control board
regulates the power supply to the burners on your stovetop. If only one surface element is not working, test the element for continuity with a multi-meter. If two or more burners fail at the same time, this might be an indication that you have a faulty control board, and it needs to be replaced.

Your
stovetop elements
may not be working due to defective coil burners, solid burners, or smooth-top range with a ribbon coil burner, all of which produce heat from electricity.
Coil Burner
– First, inspect for any signs of physical damage. Next, remove the burner element from the receptacle and use a multi-meter to check for continuity. If burner is damaged or has no continuity, it must be replaced.
Solid & Ribbon Coil Burners
– Lift main top panel to access the burner elements below. First, remove the wires from the terminal of the burner, and check for any physical damage. Next, test for continuity. If burner is damaged or has no continuity, it must be replaced.
