Did you turn your garbage disposal on and all you hear is humming?! The reason for that is most likely because the disposal is jammed causing the blades to be stuck and make a humming noise. The good news is that this problem has an easy fix. Check below to see a few tips on how you can fix your humming garbage disposal!
Your garbage disposal could be jammed because a foreign object is stuck in the disposal, restricting the blades to rotate. First, unplug the disposal under the sink, you don’t want it to turn on and start working! Next, examine the drain hole and if there is an object stuck in the blades, remove it. Once that is done, you can plug back in the garbage disposal and flip the switch back to check if it is working properly.
If there is no object stuck in the blades, grab an Allen wrench that should have came with the disposal. First, locate the breaker socket on the bottom of most disposals. Use the Allen wrench to turn the breaker socket back and forth until it is loose. Doing this, you could find the source of the problem, but make sure the disposal is turned off!
Another tip to fix this issue is by pushing the reset button located on the disposal which is usually located on the bottom of the device. If the reset button has “tripped”, simply push it and it could solve the problem immediately.
If none of these tricks works, then you may need to get a new garbage disposal. Be safe and remember to make sure the garbage disposal is not plugged in when doing any repairs.
