DIY: How to Clean Your Kitchen In 60 Minutes

For this DIY project you will need:

  •         Dish soap
  •     White vinegar
  •          Scrub brush or old toothbrush
  •     All-purpose, non-toxic cleaner
  •          Microfiber cloths,
  •          Bar mop towels or cleaning rags

A self-cleaning oven can sometimes be stinky.  If you don’t have this option there are some quick cleaning techniques you can use to clean the inside of your oven unit.

First, generously spray a non-toxic degreaser or all-purpose cleaner in the interior of the oven. Then shut the door, letting the cleaner break down the grease.  Once you’ve cleaned the inside of your oven, we suggest you clean the stove top as well.

First, remove the glass plate in your microwave and put it in your sink for cleaning.  Spray all areas inside of your microwave with non-toxic, all-purpose cleaner.

If you would like to make your own cleaner, combine water and lemon/lemon juice in a bowl and place it in the microwave. Next, run your microwave for 3-5 minutes, or until the water boils. This natural cleaner will steam the inside of the microwave. Wipe after 5-10 minutes.

For this technique, your dishwasher must be empty. First, remove the dishracks and spray the edges with a non-toxic cleaner and then wipe clean. If your dishwasher has a filter, clean it out by running it under warm water or place in your sink or a bucket of warm soapy water.

Clear the bottom trap of the dishwasher for any food or debris. To thoroughly clean the bottom of the dishwasher, pour about two cups of white vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher and run a normal wash cycle. Skip the dry cycle and let your unit air dry.

First, throw away anything old or expired products inside your unit. Then, take the rest of the contents out of the refrigerator and remove all drawers and shelves.  Wipe down the inside of the unit with either your own non-toxic cleaner.

In a sink or a separate bucket, combine the following contents to make a DIY cleaner:

1 teaspoon of dish soap, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and about 4-6 cups of warm water

Place drawers and shelves in your cleaner and let them soak for 15-30 minutes (depending on how dirty they are). Wipe clean and let air dry. Place back in the refrigerator once the interior is dry as well.
